Being An Agent of Change

Changing individual behaviors is hard. Changing organizational behaviors that lead to real business results feels impossible. Participants in this session will learn that we often default to applying technical solutions to adaptive problems.  In an interactive environment, those in attendance will discover key factors, practical lessons learned, and methodologies for effectively leading ourselves and others through change.

Key Topics will include:

  • Why organizations must evolve to survive
  • Why only 15 percent of individual and organizational change efforts are effective in today’s world and what can be done to reverse that trend
  • Why technical change is often the wrong approach toward shifting an organization’s culture
  • The importance of transitioning yourself through change before leading others
  • A look at change management models
  • The “Top 5” ways leaders must get out in front of change efforts if they are to be successful
Our Speaker: Mike Allison

Mike Allison is the Vice President of Training and Development at AMC Theatres where he directly partners with senior leadership to drive comprehensive strategies that enable the organization to build, support, and retain the talent needed to realize business outcomes. Given AMC features a dynamic culture with multiple guest-facing brands, Mike focuses on providing innovative vision and strategic leadership that enable his training team to develop skilled, productive, and motivated associates (employees) who are committed to AMC’s mission.

Mike is also an Adjunct Professor and Bloch Executive Education instructor within the Henry W. Bloch School of Management at the University of Missouri - Kansas City (UMKC). In that capacity, he teaches an EMBA course entitled Influence, Persuasion, and Change. In addition, he leads sessions for broad groups of leaders on topics such as change management, emotional intelligence, holding difficult conversations, advanced presentation skills, building trust, and executive presence.

Prior to joining AMC in early 2017, Mike spent nearly 20 years at Cerner Corporation. For most of that period, Mike held executive responsibilities within both the client and associate learning organizations. His learning teams, many of which were internationally based, provided practical and effective end-to-end learning solutions to Cerner clients and associates around the world. Mike’s teams were instrumental in seeing Cerner be named atop the Association for Talent Development’s (ATD) BEST list which awards companies that are best at demonstrating enterprise-wide success through talent development. Cerner was also a Training Magazine Training Top 125 Award winner for fourteen consecutive years.

Before joining Cerner, Mike was involved in city management for three years, working primarily as a management analyst for the city of Kansas City, Mo. He earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations and a master’s degree in public administration from Brigham Young University.

Mike is married to Amy Allison, the Executive Director of the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City. They have three young adult children (girl, boy, girl). Besides being an avid family man, Mike is passionate about seeing the world, photography, hiking, music, baseball, disc golf, and all things San Francisco. Mike was born and raised in the “City by the Bay.”
